The academy responds to the growing importance of economic, educational and cultural connections in the 21st century. Thailand–China relations are particularly important to workforce development and cooperation in the Mekong region.

The name “Silk Road” recalls the ancient routes that connected East and West through trade and the exchange of knowledge and culture. The academy carries this spirit into the present by connecting Thailand and China through education, culture, technology and professional development.
